ABOUT THIS CAUSE

HELP US TO REPEAL THE 2-SIM
DISCRIMINATORY LAW IN SIERRA LEONE,

Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora are contributing immensely to the development of
Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leone economy depends on the money Sierra Leoneans abroad send every year. Also, more Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora have been paying closer attention to the politics of the country. Most of these Sierra Leoneans want to contribute to the decision making of their country.
Unfortunately, an ambiguous clause in the 1991 constitution has discriminated those Sierra Leoneans with dual citizenship from running for position in the country. The Diaspora Initiative Project has been working very hard to repeal this law. You can make a difference by donating to this cause.

Fundraising For The Fight Against the 2-SIM law in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora have filed a lawsuit to the supreme court of Sierra Leone requesting the court to interpret section 76(1) which bans Sierra Leoneans with dual citizenships from contesting for parliamentarians in Sierra Leone. This law was used in 2017 elections by political parties to bar their diaspora members from contesting. The lawsuit also name the National Electoral Commission (NEC) as a defendant because NEC is the institution by law that determines the eligibility of candidate in any election in the country. In order to be successful, we need your support to help pay the lawyers we have hired in this case. Please donate by clicking the Donate Now button below to help repeal this discriminatory law in our constitution
